Full-Time PRINCIPAL ENGINEER
WEBER COUNTY ENGINEERING – FULL-TIME WITH BENEFITS
JOB SUMMARY Under supervision of the County Engineer, performs civil engineering work. Performs County Engineer duties when County Engineer is not present. MAJOR DUTIES (Any one position may not include all of the duties listed, nor do the listed examples include all duties which may be found in positions of this class.) Works with and assist drafting personnel in the performance of duties pertaining to surveying, location of routes, layouts, preliminary designs and map preparation to ensure proper execution of assignments. Completes all necessary and required storm water engineering including but not limited to preparing documents, drafting plans, statistical tables, preparing bid materials and all other needed materials for storm water management. Project manages various storm water projects. Understands all aspects of engineering project management and how to take a project from start to finish. Follows up on and assists in storm water project evaluations. Checks for accuracy and completeness of calculations, maps, reports, and other work performed by drafting or field crews. Checks plans and visits proposed sites or locations and takes measurements, readings, and field data; studies surroundings, analyzes operating conditions, and compiles existing data including maps, records, and diagrams in logical forms. Performs inspections of engineering and subdivision projects to ensure compliance with requirements and standards. Performs design work, drafting, specifications preparation, and other engineering studies. Correlates plans, grade sheets, and specifications and performs the drawing of preliminary plans of proposed changes against existing conditions and makes adjustments, as necessary. Prepares reports and makes recommendations to the County Engineer relating to engineering activity. Performs related duties in the field and the office as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Graduation from a college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in civil engineering, Must have Utah State Civil Engineers License, or if out-of-state license, able to obtain a Utah State Civil Engineers License within six (6) months of hire date. AND Must have at least five (5) years of applicable experience as a Professional Engineer
Knowledge of mathematics, including trigonometry and its application to engineering computations; working knowledge of the standard practices of civil engineering. Skill in making engineering computations, estimates, designs, and in preparing plans and specifications. Ability to analyze engineering work and make moderately difficult technical computations and estimates; ability to draw preliminary plans and to compile engineering data and statistics; ability to read and interpret engineering plans and specifications; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with employees, and other agencies; ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; ability to perform technical research work.
SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS Must possess a valid Utah drivers license and have a good driving record. AutoCAD/GIS experience preferred.
