Full-Time Animal Service Worker
WEBER COUNTY ANIMAL SERVICES – FULL TIME WITH BENEFITS
JOB SUMMARY Under general supervision of the Animal Facility Manager, provides maintenance services in support of the Animal Shelter; to help vaccinate, feed and care for shelter animals; and to perform minor repair work on shelter grounds. MAJOR DUTIES (Any one position may not include all of the duties listed, nor do the listed examples include all duties which may be found in positions of this class.) Will perform the following tasks: Cleans, disinfects and sterilizes animal shelter rooms, buildings kennels, holding areas and grounds. Cleans and replenishes food and water bowls.Cleans, disinfects and sterilizes the Shelter’s public bathrooms; replace towels and toilette paper. Helps vaccinate animals to be placed in the Shelter’s adoption center. Collects and places euthanized animal bodies in a wheelbarrow; moves bodies to 55 gallon drums in the freezer; holds animals during euthanasia procedures. Helps decapitate and prepare rabies specimens for state laboratory testing. May help to retrieve donated food and liter, or large animals; load and unload the trailer; store supplies. Perform minor plumbing, electrical or mechanical repairs on shelter grounds and equipment; operate a blower; shovel snow from shelter walkways. Recognizes animal health problems and brings them to the Manager’s attention. Cuts and removes weeds surrounding shelter grounds. Performs related duties and responsibilities as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS High school graduation or equivalent, AND Some experience in the handling of animals Working knowledge of the various breeds of dogs, cats and other domestic animals and knowledge of basic techniques of animal control. Skill in the use of various tools as listed below. Ability to learn , interpret and apply laws and regulations of the County related to animal control; ability to perform a variety of animal control activities; ability to learn and utilize proper handling and muzzling techniques; ability to administer animal vaccinations; ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS May be required to work weekends and holidays as assigned.
