Full-Time Community Health Nurse

JOB SUMMARY Under general supervision of the division director, performs professional community health nursing services as a public health nurse to provide preventative medical services. MAJOR DUTIES (Any one position may not include all of the duties listed, nor do the listed examples include all duties which may be found in positions of this class.) Provides skilled community health nursing care by assessing individuals or families, formulating nursing care plan, carrying out medical orders (treatments, injections, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures), making appropriate referrals as necessary, providing instructions in procedures and community health education; sets priorities for public health services; evaluates services; organizes public health programs to meet specified objectives; presents specified programs to the community; provides health education in the community as appropriate; works with other agencies as appropriate to meet objectives of health care program.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Graduation from an accredited school of nursing. AND No experience required. OR Any equivalent combination of education and experience, providing that the experience is in the public health field. Considerable knowledge of community health nursing theory and practice; working knowledge of medication administration technique; working knowledge of ACIP guidelines; working knowledge base of common communicable diseases; working knowledge of fingerstick and venous puncture procedures; knowledge of Universal Precautions; Knowledge of how to perform dip sick urinalysis, urine cultures. working knowledge of nutrition, general smoking cessation guidelines, exercise guidelines and general communicable disease control; working knowledge of the organization, functions, policies, and procedures of the various agencies in which the work will be performed; some knowledge of literature and new developments in community health nursing. Ability to assess each individual receiving immunizations for possible contraindications; ability to perform a general head to toe physical assessment on adults and children and recognize deviations from normal; Ability to handle medical instruments and equipment; ability to use tact and good judgment in dealing with varying situations; ability to discharge evaluative and clinical functions with initiative and capability; ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; ability to maintain effective working relationships with employees, patients, and the public; ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS Must be currently registered with Utah State Board of Nursing Examiners. Must have a Utah Drivers License & a good driving record.
