Job Description

POSITION: CORRECTIONS CLERK I

DEPARTMENT: Davis County – Sheriff’s – Corrections

SALARY: $11.95/Hour

OPEN: June 18, 2015

JOB SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of an administrative superior, performs a variety of routine and specialized clerical duties to facilitate the booking and monitoring of inmates at the Davis County Correctional Facility.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES (Any one position may not include all of the duties listed, nor do the listed examples include all of the duties which may be found in positions of this class.) Books inmates into the Davis County Jail; performs inmate screenings; receives, reviews, and ensures accurate completion of paperwork associated with incarceration; gathers information from inmates, including physical/mental health histories, legal documents and other sources including drivers license, motor vehicles, and warrants to create and maintain inmate files and records; performs data entry for inmate files, incident reports, account statements, and other documents as necessary. Accesses files from National Crime Information Centers (NCIC), National Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (NETS), NCC Computerized Criminal Histories (CCH), Department of Motor Vehicles, statewide Warrant System, and the Bureau of Criminal Identification (BCI) testing files. Receives, records, and stores incoming inmate funds, including bail; issues receipts for cash bail; records inmates personal belongings for safekeeping and return of the same to inmates when released. Facilitates inmate release process; updates computer records, assures payment of bond, confirms receipt of all property and funds, and ensures inmate has no other charges pending. May be assigned to monitor visual and audio systems in Central Control. Reports disruptions in the booking area to a Correctional Officer or supervisor; monitors radio transmission for emergency situations. Receives and screens telephone calls and handles questions or matters of a non-technical or routine nature, and directs other matters to appropriate staff. Processes reports, forms, payments, or other materials; examines for accuracy and completeness; makes additions or resolves discrepancies consulting with supervisor or other employees as required. Fills in data on standard office forms; maintains records, files, indexes, and books according to established methods and procedures; compiles and tabulates data for records and reports. Operates computer hardware and all applicable software; maintains physical security of computer terminal when logged on to the system. Operates a motor vehicle in a safe manner and in compliance with all Utah laws and regulations. Performs related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school graduation and one (1) year of full time general work experience, or an acceptable combination of education and experience.

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS: Type certification (30 wpm net) and audio data entry test must have been taken within the last 12 months. Sheriff’s Office Supplemental Questionnaire required with application. Tests to be taken at time of application submission and must be taken in the Personnel Office (61 South Main Street, #305, Farmington) Monday through Friday 10:30 am – 4:00 pm. In-house applicants may use a type certification already on file with the Personnel Office provided the type requirement has been met. Proof of automobile insurance and a current Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) required with application; applicants with a Utah driver’s license can obtain an MVR through the State Driver’s License Division or through Personnel.
