Under general supervision of the WIC Director, performs professional nutritionist duties involving preparation, implementation, and evaluation of the Women, Infants, and Children program in Weber County.
Example of Duties
Will perform the following duties specifically: Certify clients; interview and ascertain nutritional needs and medical risks of individual clients; counsel on nutrition to clients, give referrals. Teach staff and clients know nutritional criteria and information, know WIC policies. Follow high-risk clients; tailor food package to specific needs of individual clients; tailor formula needs of individual clients. Helps prepare annual WIC nutrition education plan; implements and evaluates plan, including class outlines; participates in quality assurance and audits and refers clients to other nutrition community agencies that can provide help. Counsels clients individually on dietary problems, how to use WIC foods to improve nutrition, and how to improve family eating patterns; teaches nutrition classes for WIC clients; teaches in‑service classes for WIC staff and nursing staff. Assesses nutritional status of WIC applicants; interviews clients; evaluates client diet; reinforces proper eating habits and suggests changes to correct improper habits; documents interviews in client charts; conducts assessment clinics; tracks high risk clients
Education & Experience
Graduation from a college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in dietetics or nutrition, AND One year of dietetics experience in the form of an internship required for membership in the American Dietetic Association and one year of experience in a hospital or community health setting. OR Any equivalent combination of education and experience. Considerable knowledge of the nutritional needs of women, infants, and children; working knowledge of counseling techniques; working knowledge of techniques of classroom instructions. Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred. Ability to determine dietary deficiencies in women, infants, and children and suggest proper corrective measures; ability to establish effective working relationships with clients, other employees and the public; ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Ability to teach in front of large groups and one‑on‑one individually.
Must be a registered dietitian. Must be licensed with the State of Utah (certified Dietitian (CD). Optional membership in American Dietetic Association.
