Full-Time Technical Support Engineer I
Under the general guidance and direction of the Director, performs complex technical server setup and systems analysis work. Analyzes, tests, implements and documents server systems. Maintains and upgrades existing systems. Installs software and hardware. Assists users with hardware/software problems. Assists in developing technical policies and procedures.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:
(Any one position may not include all of the duties listed, nor do the listed examples include all duties which may be found in positions of this class.) 1. Assesses needs and develops hardware and software solutions as required by users (interviews, determines requirements, makes notes, designs hardware and software solutions to accommodate needs). 2. Assists with server, switching, routing, and wi-fi technology. 3. Assists in the development of technical policies and procedures. 4. Installs new hardware and software, trains users, assists with problems. Changes systems as required. 5. Installs and assists users with third party software (Microsoft Office, Windows, Acrobat, etc.). 6. Works directly with software developers to maintains, modify, and upgrade/troubleshoot existing systems. 7. Coordinates with users, communicating requirements and concerns to technical staff and upper management. 8. Maintains e-mail, backup, Windows Updates, and Anti-virus systems. Assures integrity and safety of data. 9. Assists Service Desk Technicians as issues arise. 10. Assists in maintenance of file servers, desktop computers and printers. 11. Studies and develops proficiency with new hardware and software as required to assist users. 12. Stays current in the field by consulting with outside vendors concerning software and hardware. Performs related duties as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Required education, training and experience: A. Education: Graduation from a college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, engineering, or other closely related fields, with extensive course work in computer science, AND B. Experience: Two to four years of increasingly responsible employment as a computer technician with some experience administering network and server equipment, OR Any equivalent combination of education and experience. Applicable certifications will be highly valued.
Required knowledge, skills, and abilities: A. Knowledge: Extensive knowledge of methods, practices and procedures of administering appropriate electronic data processing equipment; thorough knowledge of Windows and Linux. Thorough knowledge of network technology; considerable knowledge of analysis and design techniques and quantitative methods; considerable knowledge of technical report writing; considerable knowledge of wireless networking, DNS, DHCP, VLANS and Routing; Working knowledge of Microsoft Exchange, server 2008/12/16, and Linux system architecture. Working knowledge of Active Directory and VMWare. Avaya networking and VOIP knowledge is preferred. B. Abilities: Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; ability to organize, analyze and solve complex problems; ability to research and evaluate systems needs and design procedures; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments and the public.

Desktop/Server Hardware; laser printer, telephone, wireless hardware, and various hand tools (screwdrivers, wrenches, etc.) copy machine; fax machine.
